David Moyes to consider Real Sociedad job

Real Sociedad set to appoint MoyesThe former Manchester United manager is likely to be named as the Basque side's new coach later on Monday, with Pepe Mel waiting in the wings in the event of a last-minute U-turn
Former Everton and Manchester United manager David Moyes is expected to be unveiled as the
new coach of Real Sociedad later on Monday.

Moyes is Real's top target and Goal understands he has agreed in principle to join the San Sebastian-based side, who parted company with Jagoba Arrasate earlier this month.

Real had hoped Moyes would watch the team in action at Anoeta against Atletico Madrid on Sunday, but the 51-year-old asked the club for more time to finalise preparations with his family ahead of a move to Spain and missed their impressive 2-1 win over the current Spanish champions.

He has agreed a €2 million per year deal which will run until June 2017 and make him the highest-paid coach in the club's history.

Real have also reached an agreement with former Betis and West Bromwich Albion boss Pepe Mel, who will take over in the event of a late U-turn from Moyes.

"It is true we are interested in Pepe Mel and it is true we are interested in David Moyes," Real president Jokin Aperribay said late last week. "We are talking to several coaches and we want to be sure that the new man understands the work procedures, has knowledge of the club, respects the philosophy and the youth system."

Moyes was sacked by Manchester United in April following a turbulent 10-month spell, which included two meetings with Real Sociedad (a 1-0 win at Old Trafford and a goalless draw at Anoeta) in the Champions League.
