BEST AND WORST PLAYER
TEAM RATINGS
Olympiakos Piraeus
- 16Roberto JiménezDidn't have too much to deal with in terms of shot-stopping in the first half but commanded his area well. Was involved in an entertaining duel with Griezmann in the second half, but thwarted the Frenchman with a number of saves.
- 26A. MasuakuOpened the scoring early doors with a lashed long-range finish into the bottom right corner. Was also a threat going forward though his marauding runs which Juanfran struggled with at times.
- 22E. AbidalVeteran head was invaluable at the back as he organised and kept everyone rigidly to their positions when Olympiakos were defending. Had an entertaining duel with Mandzukic, whom he only really lost sight of once.
- 3BotíaWas dominant aerially and was only bettered by Mandzukic on a couple of occasions. Best aspect of defensive performance was his blocking, which regularly frustrated Atletico trying to get shots away on the edge of the box.
- 14O. ElabdellaouiHad a hand in the opening goal as his teasing cross to the back post lead to the corner kick for Masuaku's strike. Drifted in and out the game thereafter, but was definitely kept on his toes after the introduction of Griezmann.
- 11P. KasamiDisplayed an impressive touch on the ball from the first whistle and always looked capable of picking a pass. Assisted the third goal when he easily drifted past Godin before passing in to the box.
- 2G. ManiatisFeigned injury at one point in the match before getting up sharply which was slightly embarrassing, but this was the only blight on an otherwise solid performance on the right-hand side.
- 5L. MilivojevićDisplayed a cool head in the middle of the park which proved vital in the latter stages as Olympiakos weathered the storm. Neat on tidy on the ball and got in the faces of the opposition midfield.
- 6I. AfellayLooked up for the match from the start and displayed some excellent touches in and around the touchline. Linked up well with Dominguez and took his goal coolly with a neat finish past Oblak.
- 10A. DomínguezDisplayed quick-thinking to take a short corner kick when Atletico Madrid were unsettled and disorganised at the back, which lead to the opening goal. Assisted the second with an impressive run down the left and pass inside.
- 7K. MitroglouHad a pretty torrid time for the first hour but burst in to life in the opening stages. Predatory instincts shone through as he got in front of Miranda at the front post before sliding home, which gave him confidence thereafter.
Atlético Madrid
- 13J. OblakDidn't have a particularly poor night but should arguably have did better for all three goals. Didn't make himself big enough at one-on-oneswhich allowed the strikers to pick the place for their shot.
- 2D. GodínLooked strangely out-of-sorts at the back. Dealt with Mitroglou relatively easily but when pulled out to the wings was left wanting. Skinned by Kasami in the lead up to third opposition goal.
- 15C. AnsaldiHad a poor hand in the second goal as he didn't take initiative at the back which allowed Afellay to drift in and score. However, crosses were a danger all night long, no more so than when he assisted Mandzukic with a wicked ball to the back post.
- 20JuanfranCould have did better to deal with the drifting runs of Afellay and Dominguez. However, was much better going forward and got to the byline a few times to get crosses in.
- 23MirandaPositioning was poor throughout the match as he was regularly dragged out of the box and out wide. Was duped by a simple touch from Mitroglou which allowed the Greek a free shot at goal.
- 4Mario SuárezWas involved in a terribly miscommunication with Ansaldi at the back which resulted in Olympiakos' second goal. Just seemed a little off the pace as the play slowed down significantly any time he was on the ball.
- 6KokeDidn't really assert his authority on proceedings and looked isolated at times on the wing. Made a few penetrating runs which came up trumps in the latter stages when he swung a teasing cross in to the box for Griezmann to score.
- 14GabiStupidly got himself booked for a challenge on Kasami just two minutes in which meant he was walking on egg shells for the majority of the match. This slightly hampered his ability to boss the middle of the park, in worry of receiving another yellow.
- 10A. TuranFailed to get out quick enough to Dominguez and Afellay at a short corner which allowed the duo to orchestrate the opening goal. Did positively effect the game in the final third though as he slid plenty of threaded passes through the defence.
- 8Raúl GarcíaDidn't provide enough support to Mandzukic up top which left the Croatian isolated in and around the penalty area at times. Worked hard but was never a massive threat to the Olympiakos goal.
- 9M. MandžukićTook a nasty knock to the face early on which resulted in a bloody nose, but recovered well in the first half to score an excellent headed goal. Was far too isolated up top but battled hard and was unlucky to lose.
Substitutes
- 22A. CerciCouldn't fault his ambition down the right but nothing seemed to come off for the Italian.
- 7A. GriezmannLIfted his team significantly after coming on. Tested Roberto with a number of decent strikes and made the last few minutes interesting with a good finish at the back post to make it 3-2.
